Contra-lude is a short five-minute work which acts as my love letter to the Contra clarinet. Its deep, rich tones especially in the lowest register are unparalleled in the woodwind world. This piece takes advantage of how much musical space the contra clarinet can take up, from wide expansive lines to technical and articulated passages. Beginning with long, deep notes, Contra-lude gradually moves to an all-over-the-place character with many short, repeated notes before winding down again with some melodies from the beginning.
